2007 marks the 20 year anniversary of the Australian International Documentary Conference
We would like to reflect over the past 20 years of documentary production in Australia. How has it developed, evolved, shifted in focus and forged international partnerships? What have been the significant shifts over the last twenty years? Is documentary on a stronger or weaker footing in 2007?
Despite depleting resources; new faces and directions have emerged. Audience hunger for real stories told from an independent vision is greater than ever. For this reason our documentary industry, which struggles yet survives, has a dignified history and optimistic future.
AIDC 2007 aims to bring together the international and local market of documentary alongside the craft of filmmaking, framed by a perspective that reflects on where we've been and where we're headed.
The AIDC is calling for academic work to address these themes. Papers will be posted on the site and academics are sought to chair or moderate panel discussions. The online platform will remain online all year and will exist alongside the conference as a stand alone site. There is also the potential for these papers to be curated into an electronic journal or a published book of essays on Australia's documentary history and perceived future.
Please submit an abstract (max. two pages) to the AIDC via info@aidc.com.au for the website
Submitted abstracts will be selected by committee.
If you would like your abstract to be considered for a panel, please submit by end of November 2006.
Submission deadline is
December 20 2006
