ABC TV Arts, Entertainment & Comedy and Channel 4 Arts & Performance [UK] will finance the development of a documentary arts project to the value of AU$20,000 in a pitching competition at the AIDC, February 23-26 2007.

ABC TV

The 2004 inaugural winner of the AIDC/ABC Arts Pitching Competition was 900 Neighbours, which has now been screened at the Sydney International Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival and Brisbane International Film Festival. Also from 2004, Running with Scissors (working title) is currently in pre-production. In 2005 ABC TV went into development with three projects: Who is Guy Bourdin?;, Forbidden Lie$ - The Stories of Norma Khouri and In Good Company - the 30th Anniversary of the Sydney Dance Company. The 2006 winner, The Curse of the Gothic Symphony, is currently in financing with a Letter of Offer.

Channel 4

Channel 4 Arts & Performance have recently commissioned The Yellow House, a drama about Van Gogh and Gauguin and their time together in Arles; Ballet Changed My Life, where young people from troubled backgrounds work towards a performance of Romeo and Juliet; Man on the Moon, a opera film from composer Jonathan Dove about the Apollo 11 moon landing; and How Music Works, a doc series presented by Howard Goodall looking at the fundamental structure of music and composition across all genres of music.

In 2007, ABC TV and Channel 4 are calling for treatments of up to three pages for a one-hour arts documentary or a documentary series for primetime slots on ABC TV and Channel 4.

ABC TV and Channel 4 are interested in innovative formats for arts programming. We would like to receive proposals that demonstrate new thoughts or new concepts on how arts could be expressed on television through the documentary form.

Requirements for all proposals

The deadline for applications is 5pm January 15 2007. No late entries will be accepted.

Short-listed applicants were notified 5 Februrary 2007 and published online on 15 February 2007.

All short-listed applicants are required to register for the AIDC 2007.
